“Why I Participate in Alzheimer’s Research”- Keretha’s Story

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why are we focusing on the Black community specifically?

The Black population is severely underrepresented in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) research which creates a substantial gap in our understanding of how different risk factors of the disease affect diverse populations. This study will work towards closing this gap given the findings from existing studies suggest that Black people are at twice the risk of AD and other dementias compared to White Americans.

Are you eligible to be a research participant?

We are always interested in recruiting people who are willing to be involved in research. You may qualify if you are a Missouri/Illinois resident, identify as Black or African-American, and are 45 years of age or older. Please fill out the participation form linked above, and someone from our team will give you a call!

What will you do if you join our study?

Do we offer transportation?

Yes, we offer transportation via a local cab company to take you to and from appointments–at no cost to you.

How will we keep your information confidential?

After joining, you will be assigned an ID number so that information about you can not be linked to you directly. All paper study records will be stored in a locked cabinet in a locked office, and other study data will be collected, when possible, in an electronic database that only the ARCHES research team has access to. We will contact you to get your permission before sharing any of your data with other researchers, and we will never share your personal contact information.
